There is nothing easy about addiction, especially fighting the constant cravings if you’ve somehow managed to stop using. That this fact was addressed head-on in this story gave me great respect for this new-to-me author. You don’t get hooked, go through rehab and then everything’s perfect. Once you’ve managed to purge the poison from your body, THAT’S when the real work begins. Yes, a complete change of venue can definitely help but it’s not a cure-all. You have to be ready to fight every day. Finn was the perfect example of this. Tired, grumpy, unsure – and throw in the mother from hell. Whenever she graced the pages, I cringed.
Ben was the perfect yin to Finn’s yang and I adored them together. I would’ve liked to have learned a little more about him and his past but this was still a beautiful story of overcoming some of the most difficult of obstacles and smiling on the other side.
