Severe Side Winds Ahead – Black Ops Heroes #8
By Kendel Duncan
Sometime it’s easy – smooth and happy and putting a smile on your face.
Sometimes it’s hard – rough and angry and making the tears fall.
And sometimes it’s brutal – vicious and cruel and feeling like it’s trying to knock you on your ass.
These men have been through it, they’ve experienced all life has to offer…..and then some.
They go on, they pick themselves up, dust themselves off and carry on – even if their hearts are empty.
They all know that this is the hand that fate has dealt them – to be alone for the rest of their lives – and they’ve accepted that.
But what if they’re wrong?
What if that bitch, fate, has one more surprise up her sleeve?
What if love is what’s waiting for them after they fall?
What if life has one more surprise for them……a happily ever after…..
~Justice stroked a calloused thumb over Garrett’s cheek. “You make me wish I was a better man, butterscotch.”
Garrett closed his eyes and leaned into Justice’s hand, “How could you be? You’re already perfect in my eyes.”~
~Justice nodded his head but didn’t speak and it was in that moment that Garrett realized the man was too nervous to speak – and it melted his heart. This was a gift that he meant to cherish with everything he had.~
“No, listen to me, Tiny. Up until now the only thing in my life that has ever meant anything to me is the job, it’s the only thing that ever mattered. But now, goddamn it, you matter, you don’t just mean something, you mean everything and I will not survive if I fail you.”
And Tiny went in with everything he had…and then some. If this was going to potentially be the last kiss he shared with this man until all this was over? He wanted it to be, not the best kiss in the history of kisses, he wanted it to be, quite simply, the kiss that made Blake Thornton…..his.
Blake’s eyes closed and he leaned into that hand, “I, I don’t know what that feels like, to be loved.”
“I know. But you know that feeling you’re having right now, the way your heart is beating so hard in your chest it feels like it wants to escape, the way you feel warm all over, that calm that’s flowing through your veins? That’s because I’m falling in love with you….and it’s only going to get better from here.”
He waited for Blake to join him then slid their fingers together as they walked down the hall.
Neither of them spoke – hadn’t for a while.
This moment just felt too big for words.
Hawke pressed his lips to Talon’s temple and his eyes slid closed as he whispered, “I love you, babe.”
Talon inhaled through his nose, as if he needed to breathe those words deep into his lungs and then he said, “I love you too, Hawke.”
“Yeah, I know. Forgiveness is a heady thing, Cole. Even if it can’t bring two people together it can still set you free.”
“You’re going to get through this babe,” he whispered into JD’s hair.
“How do you know?”
Brent squeezed his eyes shut as pain lanced through his heart at those words, “Because,” he whispered as he pressed his lips to JD’s neck, “because I’m going to be here. I’m going to hold you when you can’t stand on your own. I’m going to fight for you when your demons become too strong. I’m going to love you when only darkness fills your heart. And I’m going to keep you here, safe, when the storm inside of you is trying to sweep you away.”
About the author:
Kendel Duncan is the pen name for Author Dara Nelson. Why did I choose a pen name? Simple – different genres. I started out writing M/F paranormal romance books, vampires and such. And while I still do love a good vampire tale – it’s the M/F part that guided me to separate my writing. My characters changed. They let me know that my heart, my love, my joy was in writing M/M fiction so that is where I am firmly ensconced and where I plan to stay, writing as both Dara Nelson and Kendel Duncan.
So a little about the lady behind the curtain: After growing up in Northern California, Dara now calls the Seattle-Tacoma area of the beautiful Pacific Northwest her home. I am passionate about writing, about photography, about my family, my husband, my kids, about nature….basically I’m passionate about everything in my life – and that shows through in my romance/erotica/suspense novels. When I am not writing, you can usually find me hiking somewhere around Mt. Rainier or visiting with the many animals on my farm.
